While it can be easy to get overwhelmed at all the decisions you need to make when it comes to organising a wedding, many a bride-to-be has later regretted a hasty decision.

There are some important points you should consider before choosing where you are going to celebrate your wedding.

Before you get caught up in the excitement of looking at wedding resorts and venues, make a list of all the things you have to have at your wedding. Also make a list of things you’re willing to skip if necessary. Then when you’re looking at all your possible wedding locations you can quickly eliminate those that won’t cater to your core list of must-haves.
Take a planning weekend
Once you have an area in mind, organise a planning weekend. Call the wedding venues in the area and arrange a time to look around the grounds and talk about what they can do for you. By visiting all the possible venues on the one weekend you’ll be able to compare them all while everything is fresh in your mind. Usually one will stand out to you well beyond the rest.
Think about the wedding on and off season, when the resort is available, and if it’s not, whether you’re willing to wait another year to get the right season, or book something in the off season.
While booking in the busier times might seem like a hassle, it’s often because this is when the weather is just right. Look at the weather for your wedding location at different times of the year and also consider what you want for your wedding in terms of day or night, attire and so forth.
For example, if you want to wear a very light wedding dress, you’re not going to look relaxed in the wedding photos on the coldest day of the year.
Think about hiring a planner
People can often baulk at the cost of hiring a wedding planner, then wish they had hired one when they’re at the peak of the planning stress. While a wedding planner will cost you more, it is often a small cost when you consider their knowledge and experience with weddings (while this is most likely your first and only wedding), they know the better local vendors to use, know what you should pay for weddings services, and they plan around problems.
Many a wedding couple end up throwing money at their problems in the final days before their ceremony, when they could have spent less on an experienced planner and avoided the stress.
While it’s great to have a destination wedding on a dreamy tropical island or some other exotic location, but will everyone you want to attend be able to get there? Would you be willing to travel there for someone else’s wedding?
